Is it too early to start talking about this? I guess we can change the title once more is known. Here's 1 story from TV Newser.

TVNewser has learned Wilson (Wil) Surratt is returning to CNN and will be named EP of Erin Burnett‘s new program. Since 2009, Surratt has been with WPIX in New York. In 2006, he began a 2-year run at CNBC where he oversaw “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch” and worked with Burnett on “Street Signs.”

I came across this analysis from Inside Cable News. Couldn't agree more with that, that Erin Burnett should have a separately branded 3p-5p ET block on CNN. Sort of a layman's version of CNBC's "Closing Bell", I think, is the way to go.
EDIT: Clickity...

I'm not sure I'd be interested in watching anything business oriented on CNN US at that time of the day, so the idea of a show that resembles Closing Bell doesn't seem too good for me. However, I wouldn't mind if Erin lands the 3-5pm ET block, although I kind of have a feeling it's gonna be closer to primetime. I also have a feeling the final decision could be made after Fox announces (presumably in a few weeks) who will inherit Glenn Beck's slot at 5pm. Let's wait and see.

But if you shove Erin into 5p, where does that leave Wolf and the BPTOT? I for one don't wanna see TSR ending up like it was in 2006/07, with Lou Dobbs interrupting the then 3-hour TSR at 6p ET.

I'd be surprised if Erin did something that focuses heavily on business, as I believe I read part of the reason of moving to CNN was to branch out into news. Is Kiran locked into American Morning? Would Erin like an early start? Is Velshi moving to AM permanently just the start of a reboot of that show?
Let's put the NEWS back into Cable NEWS Network.
less World Sport, more World Report.

I think Erin would do well on AM, but I get the feeling from the way CNN has been talking is that her show will be distinctly her own solo project, ruling out the multi-anchored AM (to which Velshi has moved permanently).

She launched her Twitter account today...

http://twitter.com/ErinBurnettCNN

Notice her bio which says the show will launch "this fall". The version when she was hired was "this summer". I think someone in primetime, probably Spitzer, will get the boot. That won't necessarily mean Erin will get a primetime slot herself, but as a result of her show landing at say 7pm (or another earlier slot), someone else might get the 8pm promotion.

The Erin Burnett Show: a nightly program?

TV Newser story
"This new management is not one that tolerates any questions. The changes are alienating the public who has been loyal to the network for so many years. They're looking for a new audience. But if you read the comments on the social network sites, the viewers are not pleased with what they see on the air."

Mark Joyella, formerly of Mediaite.com, also better know as @standupkid on twitter, is named the digital producer of Erin's show.

Does anyone know what the name of the show will be? Has that been released yet?

Not sure why, but I have a feeling another CNN show claiming to be "smart" and "authentic" (hint: Parker/Spitzer was supposed to be "smart" and "intelligent") is eventually gonna become a trainwreck.

Um, duh?

Actually, Out Front is the corniest name for a show to be on CNN since Parker/Spitzer.

I actually think it's not half bad. I think John King USA is still one of the poorer names they've come out with in recent years. And did anyone else notice that the promo posted above has a little bit of a feel of a CNNI promo with the soft gold and blue light overlays?

Edit: I was reading the comments on ICN and just remembered the absolute worst name CNN has ever come up with for a show: No Bias, No Bull. OutFront is a hundred times better than that.

Makes sense - those up at that time and watching will likely have some interest in news across the ocean, because generally others would be Zzzz... sleeping. I would be asleep due to time difference as well. 2 AM in the middle of the night. Therefore, I won't be grabbing for pitchforks and torches.

^^Logic would suggest TSR simulcast will be gone then and regional variation will start at 7pm instead of 6pm. Although frankly, I wouldn't mind much if TSR replaces CNNI's 5pm hour - I rarely watch World Sport and Backstory is not what it used to be (turning it into a weekly show would be better IMO).

As for Burnett's show replacing an hour of WR, I'd rather watch her and a more US focused show than Pauline Chiou aka The Robot. Of course, I'm talking about European feed, Asia should I guess keep its current morning block.
