I'm still debating where this topic goes and for now, since CNN does use I-Report and other non-pro work, here it is.

From the Aspen Ideas Festival:

For someone, who in all of her interviews, stressed how she never took a journalism class, it appears Ms. Gorani has changed her mnd?

Personally, I think citizen journalist is an oxymoron. I've always bad mouthed I-Reports (nice way to avoid paying copyright fees tho).
I took journalism classes in HS and college, worked on the school papers etc, but never did any broadcast, so making me take the class wouldn't have been a problem. There is too much reliance on the non-pros (again - saving money?). Maybe it's difficult to get a journalist into certain places, but still - I have to respectfully disagree with Hala. News may have not been instantaeous before, but just look at what happened today by rushing. Maybe all anchors should take Con Law 101. I would agree all high schools should offer Journalism classes, but mandatory?
