Today, CNNI broke into a show in order to broadcast that a woman who was a Google VP has been named President of Yahoo! It seems obvious that they did this only because she was the subject of that show focusing on Woman in Business. Was it BrN or would a banner & a wait until the next news break have been more appropriate?

That's funny because it was actually breaking news YESTERDAY, so they were a little late to the game. Agreed, not working breaking in to programming.

Suicide bombing in Damascus including death of Defense Minister?" Yes. This BN preempting PMT? Definitely. 45 minutes of Ivan Watson discussing this? Priceless.

Interestingly enough, they were still touting it as BN this morning on CNN's Start. ing Point. Still using the BN yellow chyron and everything. How long after BN do you still call it BN? Just wonderin'

General Petraeus, head of CIA and well respected military man, resigns due to extramarital affair. This might have made the news and even the first story, but not BN without the affair, I think.

At first I heard Morsi, but then I realized it was Messi! A day earlier at just about the same time there was a bit of breaking news involving Morsi, but World Sport was coming up so we had to wait until the top of the hour for a more detailed update.

And I have to mention Kate Middleton's pregnancy here as well. I can't help but to think things would have possibly turned out differently if all the allegedly serious media outlets, including CNN, didn't suddenly turn into tabloids while reporting about this story. Of course Kate is popular and many people are interested in just about everything about her, but when you see senior international correspondents deployed to cover not only her pregnancy, but some prank call as well, it's easy to imagine the pressure that nurse was facing, as opposed to a situation where the prank call wouldn't be a top story on some of CNN's (and other news network's) programs. It's for the authorities to conclude what exactly led to the suicide and it's not for me to accuse anyone of doing anything, but nevertheless I think this case sounds an ethics alarm.

So today we have a Breaking News story (whopper of an earthquake in Iran) breaking into a Breaking News Story (Boston Bombings)   Bitter irony.

EDIT 2: It lasted for 2 whole minutes.

We'll back tomorrow , if they let us out of our cages. - Monita and Owen on CNN Today, 2008.

Are the other stations covering Iran Quake?  Not sure Iran would let western journalists in to cover.  And it may be a long way from anywhere.

Brekaing News at the top of PML - Court is still in session. NOT BREAKING NEWS. There are new catastrophies that we should be concerned about nor do you have few facts about. Happening Now would have been more appropriate.
