CNN updated the ticker:

Huge improvement. I hated the random keyboard characters they'd use to tell you what subject was next. Plus, the headlines on the ticker were more like web headlines and didn't always make sense without context so it was useless.

Reminds me of MSNBC a bit, but it's definitely better than a bunch of ">>>>>>>>>"s.

Yes, much better than the weird and clumsy looking >>>>>>>>>. A nice little tweak there from CNNUS!

Of course, it's apparently only for American Morning. Newsroom still has the old ticker.

I like the idea of the new ticker, but I just don't like how it looks. It feels like it doesn't match well. If they're going to do the ticker like this they should go back to the original style where it said "UPDATE" in red, except change the word update to "NEWS", "WEATHER", "ETC." Or, do something similar to CNN International's red pre-2006 ticker.

For the last 2 weeks, Fareed Zakaria on CNNI has not had the white box behind the CNN logo. Is this a new CNN US thing for their graphics, or is it just a mistake?

Has anyone noticed they made the "Breaking News" banner on the CNN/US graphics smaller? It's now a similar size to the "New Developments" and "Developing Story" banners.

Yes.

I am not a fan of the gradient lines that appear at the sides of the graphics that go all the way to the edge of the screen, they are very ugly. But when the small Breaking News banner came up, those lines were not present, and it looked a lot better.

I just noticed the smaller banner. I wonder why they changed? It seems so random, but I do think it looks a lot better.

CNN/US started using a new Breaking News open this morning. Sounds like very CNN International type music. I wish I had a screen cap, but I don't.

Cap is taken from here. Not sure about the music, I'll have to hear it a few more times to form any opinion.

I can only judge from the video Newser linked to, but the music reminds me of QMB theme a little bit. Maybe that's just because of the signature CNN tune at the end there. I can't wait to hear it in full. Is it as dramatic as the previous theme? I wonder if CNNI will start using it soon.

Here's the full animation, found from YouTube:

The music sounds like a remix of the QMB theme with a bunch of wooshy sounds on top. What was so wrong with this one? The graphics are okay I guess.

The new graphics seem fine, but after hearing the music several times now, I don't have a feeling that news is breaking. It's too quiet with no sense of urgency and the voiceover doesn't help it either. Kinda doubt it, but maybe I'll get used to it eventually.

What was so wrong with this one?

I may have said something like this before, but it's worth repeating. Short as it was, this was probably one of the best TV news music scores ever. I'm not sure it will ever get old and getting rid of it was a huge mistake.

Looks like the ticker used in the morning has been spread out across all daytime programming.

Jon, you are right, I noticed that too. I like it much better - it really annoyed me when anchors used the ticker as nothing more than an ad for their twitter handle and blog. Now, the ticker is actually informative and I like that they have a segment that advertises upcoming programming on CNN.

I spoke too soon. Just watched first couple minutes of OutFront and it was nothing but a loop of an ad for her blog, facebook page, and twitter handle. The graphic format was similar to the news ticker but it never changed to breaking news or upcoming on CNN. Considering how much OutFront has been advertised on the ticker for the last week, you would think she would return the favor and show some ads for other CNN programming at least. Couldn't watch the show any longer because of her horrific disrespect of Fed Chairman and nagging about the quantitative easing. Argh, I'm just not going to get started. Grrr.

I like CNN's graphics for the inauguration coverage...
