Centralised thread for discussion of issues regarding scheduling, programming development, talent etc of CNN's expanding slate of unscripted original series (newsy or not).

Parts Unknown, Inside Man, Death Row Stories, Chicagoland, The Sixties, as well as the three new CNNers introduced at the Upfront event, all fall into this programming strand.

Regular weekday airings of CNN Original Series began with The Sixties and Chicagoland at Thursdays 10p ET; will expand to 9p ET weeknights this summer,

The Hunt With John Walsh Premieres Sunday, July 13

The CNN Original Series The Hunt with John Walsh, produced by Zero Point Zero (ZPZ) Production, Inc. (Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown) premieres Sunday, July 13 at 9 pm ET/PT.

Featuring Walsh, a passionate victim's rights activist, television personality and a spokesperson for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, The Hunt will expose stories of ongoing criminal investigations of fugitives, expand the search internationally, and employ the documentary, visual style of the Peabody and Emmy award winning ZPZ.

Through interviews with victims, loved ones and law enforcement, coupled with new leads, The Hunt will provide the public with salient information to facilitate the capture of fugitives profiled in the series.

The July 13 series premiere episode "Shane Miller," tells the story of Miller's wife Sandy and daughters Shelby (age eight) and Shasta (age four), who were murdered in their Northern California home in May 2013, following accusations of habitual abuse. Miller, a convicted felon and only suspect in the case, is currently on the U.S. Marshal’s most wanted list.

Viewers are invited to follow, engage and interact on Twitter (@CNNOrigSeries) and at Facebook.com/TheHuntCNN.  Additionally, users can access original videos of Walsh, learn more about the fugitives through case profiles, mugshots, evidence photos, maps of their most recent locations, and artist renderings at CNN.com/TheHunt.

Following the premiere of The Hunt with John Walsh will be Death Row Stories (produced by Sundance Productions and Jigsaw Productions), which premiered in March and returns to CNN on July 13 at 10 pm ET/PT with new episodes.

Yeah, I was expecting that. She basically said that on Twitter when people asked her about it.

Quote from Mike Rowe:
Rowe says CNN is a great fit for his brand of reality TV, which he says has devolved over time. “CNN has always been a non-fiction network, with an eye on news,” he says. Mike Rowe: ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It,’ Isn’t Another ‘Dirty Jobs’

A non-fiction network? With an eye on news?  It used to be a real NEWS network, but I guess it's "devolved" like eveything else considering the current batch of incompetents running the place deem "reality TV" to be acceptible fare.

Not sure where to put this...

Just saw this post by Allan....

Wolf Blitzer just said that this will only be 1 hour.

But, yeah... airing a documentary after an important news story is crap.

Two new ones added to the list of CNN's non-news "stuff".

CNN is adding two new Original Series to the mix of programs already in the lineup.

Author and religious scholar Reza Aslan will host the new spiritual adventure series “Believer,” and comedian W. Kamau Bell will travel across the U.S. for “United Shades of America.”

I've read some of Aslan, but don't know about a series, but will see. Never heard of the other guy but premise doesn't interest me.

The trend in ratings for High Profits isn't good. It has been constantly slashing its lean-in audience by a lot.

CNN's in-house-produced Weed series performs much better. It comes to show that people would prefer the hard news side of hot topics as opposed to the trivial covered in High Profits, a documentary series about a couple capitalizing marijuana.

They really need to get rid of High Profits at this point. The show slashed Bourdain's demo lead-in from 244K to 92K and the lead-in for total viewers from 547K to 218K.
