Apparently this man, currently editor of Newsweek, is coming to CNN soon to do a weekly international show for both CNN/US and CNNI. Has anyone seen him before on ABC? (or any other network?) - he's on there sometimes apparently. Nice to know CNN/US is taking slightly more interest in world news, even if it is only because of terrorism and Bush's wars. :D (Thanks to CNN Observations for spotting this news :D ).

Fareed Zakaria Joins CNN as Host of International News Program

One-of-a-Kind Global Get-Together Will Air in United States, Around World

Fareed Zakaria, editor of Newsweek International and one of the world's leading journalists and commentators on international affairs, has joined CNN as the host of a weekly international news program that will air both on CNN/U.S. and on CNN International around the world, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S.

With Americans growing increasingly aware that their most pressing concerns including prevention of terrorism attacks, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the security of jobs and retirement nest eggs, the safety of their families' food and toys and the health of the environment are intertwined with events around the globe, Zakaria will draw upon his vast experience and extensive Rolodex to bring thought leaders and world leaders together to make sense of it all on a global stage.

In addition to anchoring the new weekend program, Zakaria will contribute analysis to other CNN programs across CNN Worldwide. He is based in New York.

I haven't seen it, but it looks really good. It's refreshing to see more international news on CNNI. I think the episodes are on CNN.com, so I should check it out.

Has anyone seen him before on ABC?

Yes Richard, Fareed Zakaria is a household name in the USA, after years of excellent work on one of the most popular Sunday Morning Talk Shows: ABC News: This Week with George Stephanopoulos . Even CNN would have to admit that This Week with George Stephanopoulos has enjoyed popularity.

However, now that CNN has Fareed, even ABC News would have to admit that CNN has a real chance to take the lead in Sunday Morning Talk Shows. Especially with the tremendous loss of the late Tim Russert who was the respected host of Meet the Press,

As a broadcaster Fareed is quite wooden and definitely not a natural but that doesn't matter because the content of the show is invariably high.

Mr Zakaria has returned an award in protest, and I completely love the man even more for doing so.

I have no opinion on the actual debate, but if Fareed truly feels that way, good on him for doing that. Too many people just offer lip service and serve up faux outrage.

He's leaving Newsweek and moving to Time magazine, as well as moving into an expanded role with CNN.

It's about time. I actually think Newsweek is marginally better than Time (but still pales in comparison to the Economist), but I was always surprised that Fareed had been working for Time's biggest competitor while also presenting his show on CNN.

I'm also glad to hear that he'll be more involved with CNN now.
