HLN will debut a new weeknight talk show hosted by ABC's The View co-host Joy Behar this Fall. It will take the place of Lou Dobbs' repeat at 9pm. Joy will continue as a host on The View.

I like her, at least what I saw of her on LKL.

Nancy Grace went on "The View" today to promote her new novel, The Eleventh Victim but the appearance also gave Grace the opportunity to welcome Joy Behar, who is getting her own HLN show in the fall. Grace held up a sign — okay it was an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper that an assistant probably worked up in the make-up room — with the words "Welcome Friend." Hugs ensued.

> Update: Okay. Okay. We've been assured that Grace wrote the message herself...

I'd like to know who is going to start a Joy Behar topic in anchors and reporters forum. Is it even possible? It just doesn't feel right if you ask me.

I think, to me at least, it was clear a while ago that she was going to succeed Larry King when he retires or dies. A couple of years ago I would have been placing money on Nancy Grace, but she seems to be having success with her crime show. It sounds rather daft, but the only thing that would stop Joy taking up the 9p slot on CNN eventually would be if her HLN show was a success. If it turns out to be a smash, they would be just as wise to leave her on HLN and recruit someone for Larry's replacement. But there are a lot of "if's" in that, and I know I'm going off topic slightly, but there you go.

I'm not sure if this will work out. The last time they gave a show to a non-quasi-journalist (DL Hughley), it didn't work out.

I don't think they would simulcast Joy's HLN show on CNN, but who knows? They do a lot of stupid things on both networks that leave a lot of people scratching their heads. Anything's possible I guess. But I would lean towards no.

I would be very surprised if they were to simulcast it on the main CNN. CNN has been trying to distance its brand from this awful new HLN as much as possible.

HLN has announced that the new show for Joy will debut on September 28 and will indeed run 7 days a week.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea on what exact format the show will have? Will be it newsy ( I know, wishful thinking) or will it lean more towards the celebrity/showbiz light entertainment news. If that's the case, CNN would be wise to return Larry King back to the hard news agenda. Then you'd have both channels complimenting each other and not competing with each other.

Yes.

The new HLN lineup of Mitchell, Disgrace, and Behar is all part of an "estrogen-heavy" lineup:

Ken Jautz seems to be pleased with the mediocre success (if you want to call it that) of HLN. I wonder how the network would look if someone with a clue actually took over.

TV Newser has details of the launch party.

The famed Oak Room at New York's Plaza Hotel was the setting for a party last night to celebrate the launch of HLN's "The Joy Behar Show", premiering Tuesday at 9pmET. The party, thrown by Behar's "The View" co-host Barbara Walters, was packed with boldface names from news and entertainment and from all the networks.

Two Joy related pieces.

Page Six, lists Joy as a possible contender for Larry King if/when he retires: http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/cnn_pla ... KwsrUDWNeJ

And TV Newser has an interview: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/hln ... 136929.asp
