HLN had its best July ever among Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo in both total day and primetime. HLN topped MSNBC in total day in the demo (147k vs. 144k) and grew by double-digits during total day, up 36% among total viewers and up 44% among A25-54 viewers. HLN also grew the most of any cable news network among Total Viewers during primetime (M-F), up 48%.

The death of Michael Jackson gave a boost to "Nancy Grace" at 8pmET which finished as #2 show in the demo, beating MSNBC's "Countdown" and CNN's "Campbell Brown." The Jackson story also gave "Showbiz Tonight" at 11pmET its best month ever in Total Viewers.

Does anyone have any numbers for HLN before they introduced the new prime time lineup (when they were still a news network)? I'd be interested to see if there really is that much of an increase in viewers.

An opinion lineup was a huge cultural shift for CNN and if its average prime-time audience hadn't jumped from 194,000 in 2004 to 597,000 this year, Jautz probably wouldn't be around to talk about it now.

I haven't been checking daily, but it seems that Joy's show wasn't far from coming third on Wednesday.

While Time Warner's CNN touts itself as the straight-shooting news network in between two loose-cannon opinion-mongers-Fox News and MSNBC on the right and left, respectively-the network's once retiring sibling, HLN, has emerged as a growing entrant in the opinion journalism field. Formerly known as CNN Headline News, HLN has been drawing viewers-and advertisers, many of them new-to its brand of programming.

Off-topic, but MediaBistro/TVNewser is like YouTube, the content is amazing but the people who comment prove why our country has such a mediocre IQ...

Back on topic, congrats to Joy but CNN's blatant nosedive in the ratings this year is embarassing.

I don't watch Joy's show, but that is not a bad effort to beat out all the other programs on the main CNN network. I suppose a lot of viewers of "The View" would also watch her HLN show?

In February, Morning Express with Robin Meade scored its best ratings in history in both the demo 25-54 (206k) and total viewers (342k) ranking second in the morning and outperforming MSNBC's Morning Joe by 94%.

Morning Express beat out American Morning as well? Good for them, as it seems Robin is quite popular with people.

Personally not a fan of Joy, but congrats to her on the increased ratings. And kudos to Robin who continues her excellent work.

HLN’s Star Dims, As Its Ratings Fall Further Than CNN’s In October

HLN (formerly Headline News) was being talked about last year as the ascendant star among Time Warner’s cable news duo, but compared to October, 2009, its October, 2010 ratings have fallen more sharply than “big brother” CNN’s.

HLN was down 35% in the cable news target adults 25-54 demo during primetime, and down 26% during the entire viewing day. HLN’s average viewership fell 27% during primetime and 19% during the entire viewing day.

Still the same old story...

HLN 2010: Morning Express, Joy Behar Only Bright Spots

Much like its older sibling CNN, HLN had a rough 2010, with both total viewer and demo ratings down in primetime and total day.

Unlike CNN, however, HLN still had a few bright spots in its lineup in the form of “Morning Express” and Joy Behar.

It seems that people just love their Morning Express.

HLN’s Morning Express with Robin Meade continues its success from 2010, its highest year on record, into 2011 with another monthly win among 25-54 viewers over MSNBC’s Morning Joe. January marks the 22nd month that HLN has beaten MSNBC in the morning daypart. This month, Morning Express topped Morning Joe by 39% among 25-54 viewers (178k vs. 128k). Additionally, Morning Express increased 5% among total viewers (322k vs. 308k) and increased 7% among 25-54 viewers (178k vs. 166k) compared to prior year.
