I wish the HLN stream was still up on Justin.tv. I'd love to tune in to the show to see why everyone loves it. I'm wondering if it's because it has a right balance of news/light entertainment, or if it's simply because Robin looks hot.

It seems HLN has some success with crime on HLN.

For a little more than two months, HLN has been running documentaries from sister network truTV on Saturday nights. And this past Saturday, the block of programs came in second to MSNBC in primetime (8-11pm) in the A25-54 demo. In fact the 9pm and 10pm hours came in first: ahead of CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. In Total Viewers the network was still fourth in primetime, but the 9pm hour came in second place behind Fox News. The crime block airs from 7pmET to 6amET Sunday morning and features documentaries including “Body of Evidence: From the case files of Dayle Hinman” and “The Investigators”.

Crime may not pay, but it certainly brings in the viewers.

The Casey Anthony trial propelled HLN in the ratings Tuesday. The biggest beneficiary was 8 PM host Nancy Grace, who placed second in both total viewers and the adults 25-54 demo in her timeslot with 1.165 million and 376,000, respectively. Grace finished behind only Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly.

People really seem to be loving their coverage of that Casey Anthony trial.

I know it's not really indicative of the network with the numbers really only high because there is a certain level of interest in "the trial", but it is interesting to note just how that 1 story can have a massive impact on a network, only if it is going to be short term.

Coverage of the Casey Anthony trial brought another Friday win to HLN. Among the cable news networks, HLN was #1 among A25-54 viewers for the day and in primetime. Fox News was #1 in Total Viewers for the day and primetime, with HLN a close second.

I'm not angling for more of the farce we saw during the trial, but the headline looks good:

The July ratings release is out!

In July, HLN posted its best month ever in Total Day among both total viewers and the 25-54 demo (702k and 230k, respectively), topping solid numbers from June and previous highly-ranked months including September 2001. It also had its best delivery ever in M-Su Prime among total viewers (998k) and ranked #1 in the dayside daypart (M-F 9a-5p) across all cable news among 25-54 viewers (256k).

Additionally on July 5, during the breaking news coverage of the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial, HLN was the most-watched television network on broadcast or cable with more than 5.2 million viewers turning between 2:15 and 2:30 during the reading of the verdict.

Will be interesting to see HLN's ratings for Monday with their saturation coverage of the Murray trial. Anyone want to make any predictions before the numbers are released? Will HLN beat CNN? Meanwhile, the Washington Post writes about HLN's coverage yesterday. http://www.washingto...jOtwM_blog.html
