So, Jonathan gets to debut the new set. I thought we might make this a new topic for discussion about the new Atlanta set.

To make it easier on those who just want to have a look at pictures, here's all my caps and video which pop up throughout this thread.

Here's the video of the mini tour Michael showed us on BackStory.

It's more based on the old set than I thought it would be. By the way, will the new desk be movable?

Oh, is that what it was. I would have never noticed. It's just more blue.
I kept waiting for some kind of announcement.

It looks bigger. There also appears to be another presentation point to screen left? I wasn't quite quick enough to capture it as Jonathan walked off. You can just see it in the first cap (with the TV's above) and in the second last cap.

I love the addition of the map on the wall - better than just plain blue.

I'll be interested to see how the regular news programs utilise this new set. Will have to wait for World Sport at 4:30p eastern and CNN Today following The Situation Room.

Steve just mentioned on Twitter that BackStory will feature a peek at the World Sport studio before it goes to air as well!

^^

I doubt it the new studio will launch later as well. But I think he may have meant to say that what could be interesting there will be to see the uphill battle the Obama administration experienced this week. Let's face it: nominees who withdrew for tax problems, dimming hopes for a stimulus package with bipartisan support, etc.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!

Parts of the new World Sport set will be shown in Back Story!!!!! Just before it goes on air!!!!!!!!!!

Well we couldn't see a lot but it looks like a refreshed old set, just like those drawings we saw. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest, I was hoping for something totally new.
But let's see how they use it, hope they won't waist the whole left side like they used to.

I like the worldmap panels. Only I think the new set does not fit the new graphics.

And yes it's only a refreshed version of the old set.

But let's see how things work when the first World News is aired from it.

It's a bit of an anti-climax. I was expecting a much more radical change. :-(

That’s the new set? Wow there is really creative people.
The daily followers of CNN may notice the differences, but the occasional viewers, probably won’t even notice the differences.
Even if they have a complete new way to use that set and approach the viewers in a total different angle, I was still expecting for something different, not so Déjà vu.

Anyway, my mind is more centred in the 2 new puppies my dog had yesterday. :D

It looks beautiful, very posh .
This is how it should have looked 3 years ago.

They are gonna move desks around the place.

Michael said the new show features Hala.

Awww.. that is nice. Congratulations. :-)

Ontopic: the new studio (although visually it isn't much of an upgrade) looks nice and Michael's bit on BackStory about it was totally great! I loved how they walked all the way across CNN center and how they showed us all of the new studio.

And a nice scoop about Hala's new show debuting next monday! Hurray!

Forget the set… I’m just happy if Hala will be on Monday. She is good at any set. ;-) :-P :D
Why caring so much over the set? When you have talented people working and news delivered in HQ... the rest is just a plus.

The plasma's look a lot better than the old ones and they seem to have improved the lighting a lot. Also the movable desks should be an improvement.

I thought it was interesting to see how the set is basically divided in two sections with a smaller set on the left of the main set. I didn't really get what Michael said about what the use of that smaller set is. Did anyone hear that?

I love that they have the CNN logo in several places. I remember in 2006 many complained (me included) about the lack of cnn logo in the set.

They are also using the left part of the set, they have a huge screen there, it's behind Teri.
