It's being simulcasted right now. Who the hell told them to simulcast this? I wanna watch WBT, not this debate.

EDIT: Those who have WBT on right now, please record it and send it to me via email (I'll PM you) I am just shocked EMEA would do this.

EDIT 2: I want to clarify that those who got World Business Today (1am GMT edition), I need it plz ASAP (I'll PM you my email address as I am more interested in business than politics), and I want to add that EUROPE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STUPID REPUBLICAN DEBATE!!!!!!

As for the debate itself, despite the fact elections are almost a year and a half away, it actually wasn't as boring I feared it might be, mostly thanks to John who did a very good job as a moderator.

Well, the debate was on air at 2 am CET. CNN probably assumed that people watching at that time of the day were most likely tuning in especially for the debate. In Asia on the other hand many viewers probably just wanted to watch their news before they went to work. So I think simulcasting it on the EMEA feed only made sense.

"The Best Political Team On Television" just got a little bit bigger.

The CNN political team welcomed Ron Brownstein as a senior political analyst last week.

The editorial director for National Journal Group will serve as a contributor and provide political perspective to programs network-wide. His first appearance was on CNN's "American Morning."

Washington Bureau Chief and Senior Vice President Sam Feist said, "We're proud that Ron will again be joining CNN to help us cover what's shaping up to be an extraordinary campaign season."

And for Brownstein, the feeling is mutual. "I'm excited to be rejoining a great CNN political team that not only provides comprehensive and insightful coverage of politics from wire to wire, but never loses sight of the fact that campaigns are not a form of entertainment-they are the way we set our direction and settle our differences as a society," he said.

For once I might watch. Little Ricky has a habit of avoiding debates, forums etc. Note he had to miss the SC forum to rush back to Texas where wildfires have been burning - for almost a year.
He refused to debate in the last governor election at all, knowing he'd get mopped up by the very capable former mayor of Houston. I won't believe he'll be there til I see him.

I do always try to give CNN's debates at least a look in. Sometimes the questions are stupid, but some of the best debates I've seen over the years have been on CNN.

There are a couple of little things I took issue with, but I guess most people are like that with every debate. It's not worthwhile mentioning them as overall I really enjoyed the debate. It was lively. Debates this far out with so many candidates don't offer people a real chance to get to know a candidate, but I thought Wolf did try to get down to the nuts and bolts of something. I won't be voting for any republican candidate next year, but I think I identified a couple of candidates I'd like to see make it through to be the eventual nominee, if only because they were exciting to watch and not afraid to speak up.

Interesting article in the "American Journalism Review":

CNN Under Fire - Should the news outlet have cosponsored a GOP debate with the Tea Party Express?
(...)
Ed Fouhy, former executive vice president of CBS News and executive director of the presidential debates in 1988 and 1992, says he and other journalists were appalled by CNN's decision, and would have argued strongly against entering any such relationship. Not only is it an ethical issue, he says, but it raises questions about CNN's ability to evaluate such offers and the motives behind them.

"It seems to me the Tea Party, a very young and controversial institution, used CNN's name and reputation to gain legitimacy and standing through this alliance," Fouhy says. "CNN, in short, was manipulated."

Greta Van Susteren sticks up for CNN's Tea Party debate. I don't think she carries that much weight, but I do agree with her point that we got information about the candidates. I don't think many undecided people would have made their mind up after watching the debate, but at least they gained more insight on the candidates. http://www.mediabist...riticism_b89200
