There's and ad that started airing today on CNN en Espanol indicating that a new website, CNNMexico.com, will go live on Monday.
It will be CNN's second attempt to break into the Mexican news market in the web. CNN.com.mx was the first one, but it disappeared around the same time CNNenEspanol.com did, in 2004.

If you go to the website now http://www.cnnmexico.com" onclick="window.open(this.href); return false;" title="{TEXT}">, you'll find a huge CNN Mexico logo with the legend "Proximamente" (Coming soon), but you can already access some of its content, like this blog http://blogs.cnnmexi...n-primer-plano/" onclick="window.open(this.href); return false;" title="{TEXT}">. It seems it is going to share some elements that were recently implemented on CNN.com instead of having its own design, like CNN Chile has. However, the bottom of the website is the same as CNNExpansion. It indicates the website will probably be run by the Grupo Editorial Expansion instead of the CNN Mexico City bureau.

Meanwhile, all CNN en Espanol has is a little almost-never-updated section of CNN.com.

UPDATE:
I made a Google search of CNNMexico.com and found several December 2009 articles. I couldn't access the pages but I made a search of one of the article's title and found out that it was an article of CNNExpansion.com. It could be that CNNExpansion.com is going to become CNNMexico.com on Monday. Or, they just tested the new website with an article of the old one.

Even though CNNExpansion.com is supposed to be a business news website, it already features other kinds of news, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do "delete" CNNExpansion.com.

UPDATE 2:
You can't access the blog anymore. We'll have to wait until Monday.

Interesting. Thanks for posting this, I like to keep track of all of CNN's news websites, even if I have to use Google translate to read them.

Promo for CNNMexico.com. It's not the one I was talking about. In fact, this one says "Starting today...", so my guess is that the promo will run on Monday. Anyway, I found it today. It features Gabriela Frias.

You can see the design is exactly the same as the new CNN.com. The "Economia" (Business) section features an external link logo, so it seems CNNExpansion is going to live on. The website is also mentioned in the "Social Media" box.

It looks like a pretty complete website. I think it could even be a pretty decent website for all CNNE viewers, if we, of course, ignore the local news and the fact that the website is named after an specific country that's not the only one in the region. I wonder if they could make a dual site like the CNN/US-CNNI sites, one CNN Mexico and the other for people who speak Spanish but are not Mexicans. They used to do that before 2004.

Congratulations to the Grupo Editorial Expansion and CNN Mexico for the new website!

UPDATE 20:20 ET/19:20 MEX
CNNMexico.com is live! But some of its sections are not available yet. The quality of its videos is HORRIBLE. The official launch day is February 15.

UPDATE 22:00 ET/21:00 MEX
Big logo and "Proximamente" legend back. I hope they correct the quality of the videos in time for the launch.

CNNMexico.com is launched! Everything seems to be fine except for anything at http://blogs.cnnmexico.com but I'm sure they're working on that!

I don't speak Spanish, so I obviously won't be using that site, but I like the layout of it better than the English editions of CNN.com. With the big picture box at the top with the smaller one and the list of top stories below it, there's a lot less competing for your attention.

It seems sloppy to launch a website that isn't finished or working properly. Other than that, it looks good. I hope CNNe is the next site to get a relaunch.

Well, http://blogs.cnn.com is not available either. That doesn't mean the blogs aren't there. You can easily access specific blogs, like http://blogs.cnnmexi...n-primer-plano/.

I like the website. It feels like it is a lot less crowded than the English versions, but it can't compete against the BBC Spanish website for international news. Sure, CNNMexico.com is a lot more interactive in terms of social media, video and the IReports; but I'll stick to BBC for several reasons.

One of them is the RSS feeds. I don't really visit the homepages but the news I find in my RSS reader. It's faster than loading a complete website. And BBC's homepage RSS is way more complete than CNNMx's.

Another reason is the name. You can launch whatever you want, and name it the way you desire, but it is politically incorrect to brand it CNNMexico.com and sell it as if it were CNNLatinoamerica.com. I'm not Mexican, so I fell left out. It's like forming a club named "Los Mexicanos" and expect all Latinos to join it.

And the most important reason is that during the first day of CNNMx, I compared some articles on both sites and found BBC Mundo's more informative and easier to read.

Of course, all of these reasons are personal. It doesn't mean CNNMx is a train wreck. It'll be more successful than the late CNN.com.mx and it might spun off a new CNNenEspanol.com. I will check CNNMx from time to time, but when it comes to international news in Spanish, my first web source will continue to be the BBC.

I just clicked on the website to take a look and noticed that a video with Gabriela Frias started to play. It looks as though it is a promo/orientation video for the new website.

Yes, it's the same video I posted.

Today I visited CNNMexico.com. I read some articles before finding this one: Ellen no convence como jueza en American Idol (Link), a translation of this CNN.com article: Ellen DeGeneres ' 'Idol? performance draws mixed reviews (Link). The thing is, the translation is awful in every possible way. "Lost in translation" reaches a new level.

There's another error just under the highlighted quote. They tried to translate the name of the FB group "Ellen is going to RUIN IDOL", but somehow they just went half way, showing "Ellen va a arrui" instead of "Ellen va a ARRUINAR IDOL".

Come on, new website! If you are going to translate CNN.com articles, please do it properly!

I´m allowed to ask: Is there now a offical or unoffical live stream for CNN en Espanol , especially in this case for the signal feed for CNN Mexico ? Thanks
