Hamish is an anchor for Al Jazeera English in London (formerly based in Kuala Lumpur). He is probably more accomplished than many broadcast journalists twice his age.

I would LOVE to be able to move this thread to the CNN A&C forum, but it looks like he was only reporting as a freelancer. Still, it's good to hear from Hamish since he left Al Jazeera English.

Happy day for me with Hamish recruited back for Aussie TV. TEN are so luck to have Hamish and Hugh on the books together.

Journalist Hamish Macdonald is joining the new 6pm news-based programme coming to TEN in 2011.

The former anchor for Al Jazeera has been appointed Senior Foreign Correspondent of the new show and will share hosting duties with Hugh Riminton in Negus’ absence.

Very nice to see Hamish anchoring again. I do truly miss him on AJE.

According to this new interview with Hamish, he was offered a job at CNN - that's why he resigned from Al Jazeera English. Somewhere in between working out his AJE contract and signing with CNN, he was offered his current position here in Australia with TEN.

If ever Hamish would have decided to deny the TEN offer and go with CNN, it would have been a better offer for him given the shortage of anchors and correspondents at CNN IMHO.

I like his presenting style during his AJE stint and now with TEN.

He would've been a steal for CNNI. They need more people like him who are great anchors in addition to being fearless field reporters. Though I suppose maybe the appeal of moving back home may have swayed him to Ten?

Such a shame CNN didn't suceed in getting him, he would've been an excellent eventual replacement for Amanpour.

Hamish co-anchored coverage of the hacking testimony overnight. There's been some recent specultion here that he may be tapped for a fulltime anchoring role somewhere at TEN next year. That would be pretty exciting.

Just a thought.... Does anyone else suspect Hamish may have been in line for Prism? He says he was offered a job by CNN, Tony Maddox said they were talking to someone familiar with the region. The timing roughly works out. It also fits that Hamish decided to return home and CNN didn't manage to the hire the person they were talking up.

That all adds up, so I suspect you could be right. Prism seems to be in limbo now.

^^ The above did turn out to be true and Hamish's new bulletin debuted last night. I didn't do this video, but it's an aircheck of the debut - including an appearance by a familiar Hong Kong CNNer.

Looks like a pretty solid show, and I'm happy to see him successful. One thing, though— those pants are suspect.
