I noticed this is on the schedule for Saturday and the blurb says:
"Hosted by Becky Anderson from London's Design Museum, Design 360 celebrates intelligent design; the human ingenuity behind the inventions and products that impact our lives."
Wow. This show has been gone for years. And it was Hala's til she left and needless to say it really didn't last after that in spite of Finn and Monita's best efforts. I'm trying to remember when it left, but I couldn't find a thread on it so I suppose before 2007.
And "intelligent design" might not have been their best choice of wording...

Thanks for your patience til we squash the annoyance.
Citizen Journalism

I'm still debating where this topic goes and for now, since CNN does use I-Report and other non-pro work, here it is.
From the Aspen Ideas Festival:

For someone, who in all of her interviews, stressed how she never took a journalism class, it appears Ms. Gorani has changed her mnd?
Personally, I think citizen journalist is an oxymoron. I've always bad mouthed I-Reports (nice way to avoid paying copyright fees tho).
I took journalism classes in HS and college, worked on the school papers etc, but never did any broadcast, so making me take the class wouldn't have been a problem. There is too much reliance on the non-pros (again - saving money?). Maybe it's difficult to get a journalist into certain places, but still - I have to respectfully disagree with Hala. News may have not been instantaeous before, but just look at what happened today by rushing. Maybe all anchors should take Con Law 101. I would agree all high schools should offer Journalism classes, but mandatory?

CNN On The Frontlines

Since I watched this show on domestic (several times) I'll put this topic here, at least for now.
First, hats off to the correspondents - dangerous hard work done stellarly.
The show - Again CNN has a show hosted by the language impaired, self-absorbed, wanna be. And as the group were introduced as from CNN International, well, why was a US entertainer hosting it? The show should be about those being interviewed not self-references or constant comments as to how great CNN is compared to other news organizations. If the host wanted to talk about his parachute experiences, he should have been an interviewee, not the host. A much better choice would a real International corespondent/anchor. Say - John Vause.
Would have like to have seen the individual comments, like they had on .com interspersed. And I'll call out Gorani - thought she kinda stepped on Arwa. Would have like to have heard more from her.
This was a great concept, but I found myself thinking the show was just so-so. A bit of tweaking: a real foreign correspondent as host and not the overused former host of "The Mole", personal pieces and maybe another 30 minutes to include those and this could have been an outstanding show.
