3rd CNN Fan Awards - 2012

09 December 2011 - 12:54 PM

3rd Annual CNNFan Awards, 2012.
Honoring the Best of CNN International
1st March 2011 - 31st December 2011

The race has officially begun!!!

>>>So please do your research and PM me with your list of nominations starting from from Thursday, 15th December upto Saturday, 31st December

>>>No need to nominate in the following categories-
Best Research/Newsgathering – Special Program
Best Research/Newsgathering – Episodic Feature or News Program
Best Interview

I will ask a group of CNNfan.org's posters to nominate the top five contenders for these three categories. In case of Best Interview, a list of 15 interviews, selected by the same posters, will be posted in the preliminary list when the nominees are announced (date to be later posted) of which the top FIVE will be selected for final contention for all to vote. If you have any recommendations for these or any other categories, you are free to post your thoughts below or PM me.

Here are the 21 categories for this year's competition. Past year's awards- 2010 and 2009

  • Best News Program
  • Best Feature Program
  • Best Special Program
  • Best Network Coverage
  • Best Breaking/Live-Event Coverage*
  • Best News Anchor – Male
  • Best News Anchor – Female
  • Best Feature Host – Male
  • Best Feature Host – Female
  • Best Reporting – Male
  • Best Reporting – Female
  • Best Sports Anchor/Reporting
  • Best Weather Anchor/Reporting
  • Best Title Design or Graphics
  • Best Music Theme or Score
  • Best Promo/Ad
  • Best Program Segment
  • Best Interview
  • Best Research/Newsgathering – Special Program*
  • Best Research/Newsgathering – Episodic Feature or News Program*
  • Worst News/Feature/Special Program
    *new category

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rules-
The number of nominees per category is FIVE (5) for all categories except-
Best Sports Reporting and Best Weather Reporting - THREE (3) nominees.
Best {Male/Female} Feature Host - FIVE (5) or SIX(6) nominees, depending upon the final vote or possible ties.

>>>You can nominate in as many or as less categories as you wish.

>>>If you choose to nominate in a given category, you must nominate at least THREE (3) or at most FIVE (5) choices in order of preference. Your No.1 choice will receive 50 points, No. 2 gets 40 points, No. 3 gets 30, No. 4 gets 20 and No. 5 will get 10 points. The contenders receiving the highest amount of votes get nominated. So it is better if you fill up all the five possible slots if you want your favorites to reach the final five.

For the following categories- Best News Program, Best Feature Program, Best Network Coverage, Best {Male/Female} News Anchor, Best {Male/Female} Reporting, a contender HAS to be mentioned THRICE (3 or more) among all the votes, to be considered for a nomination. This means even if two people nominate say, Hala Gorani for Best News Anchor-Female, even as their No.1 (50 points) choice, thus getting her 100 points, she will not be nominated unless she receives one more mention (any rank) from any another poster. This is only limited to the given broad categories to show a degree of consensus among the posters (based on last year’s total voting numbers, getting mentioned by three posters means getting the support of around 15% of the total voters.) So for these seven major categories, if you want your favorites to get in the top five but you are unsure if three people will mention it/him/her, start asking others to do that favor. Hence, each of the top 5 vote getters will have got mentioned by at least three posters.

For the rest of the categories, those getting the top 5 highest number of votes will be nominated.

Instead, nominate the Host; so even though they are hosting the same program, a vote for say Sara Sidner for Talk Asia is separate and tallied differently than to a vote for Krisite Lu Stout for the same program.

In April, the reports will be dedicated to the impact businesses have in the world and what they are doing to become environmentally friendly. The series concludes with a half hour special hosted by Cousteau titled “Green Light for Business”, airing April 16 at 3:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 at 2:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 10:30 p.m. (All times Eastern). The the top FIVE (5) vote recipients in each category will officially become the 2010 CNN Fan Awards Nominees (the top SIX (6) OR top THREE (3) in listed otherwise.)

---4. Please send me your complete ballot through Private Message (PM) by Saturday, 5th March 2011.

5. The final nominees will be posted on this thread on Sunday, 6th March 2011. Instructions will then be given on how you can vote for the final winners.

6. Please feel free to voice in your opinions of your favorites, of who you think should be nominated, of those who you think should not, and other predictions and prognostications below.

7. Next year's CNN Fan Awards will contend CNN International programs, anchors and correspondents, and technical achievements shown on CNN International from 1st March, 2011 through 31st December, 2011. After that, we will have a yearly basis eligibility period.

8. Guests, you have to be a member of this forum to vote. You can register here. It is very simple and once you join in, you can fully participate in all our activities.

9. *** Indicates last year's winner(s)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am hopeful for our participation. Scratch your head a little for the old shows, and feel free to post questions. Since we are using the preferential voting system, vote for your personal favorites, along with the absolutely deserving ones. It is the overall position of the nominee in every ballot that counts, more so than the number of total actual votes he/she gets that will determine the nominees.

Here are all the contenders from CNN Internaional's June 2010 - Feb 2011 run that I could note down. If I have missed anything or anyone, my apologies, and please, do add those names below. Again, choose 4 for every category from these-

Allright, one more year has gone. Time to continue with this tradition and conduct the 1st Annual CNNfan awards (if you discount all the previous individual ones). This time, it would be wonderful if all of us could participate and vote on the nominations and winners. This would show our general trends, differences, and appreciation of CNNI shows, and it would be a wonderful culmination for CNNI's 2009-2010 run. You should categorize your nominees based on CNNI's airing from May 2009 - June 2010. Please PM me your 6 nominations (except for the ones as noted) for each categories below to register your choice, or discuss possible choices in this forum below. Or you can just PM me your list of winners from each category. Final deadline for nominations July 1-
