When I first came to this forum more than a year ago I was a real CNN fan. At that time I've grown to appreciate several of CNN's personalities, mostly the International personalities at first. I was always fond of watching the double anchoring stints of Andrew, Hugh, Kristie, Anjali, Michael, Colleen, Jim, Hala, Rosemary, and many other CNNI anchors. For me that made watching CNNI very interesting and I would always tune in every night to see the pre-revamp shows like Your World Today. World Business Today was also interesting to watch as a tri-anchored show of Andrew, Charles, and Maggie. The days of CNN Today, World News Asia, and all the pre-revamp shows still had their charm. Like many of you here, I've enjoyed watching them. It was the good old days that kept me glued to CNNI. And when Twitter was introduced I was very enthusiastic to follow my CNNI favorites, from Kristie and Rosemary to Michael and Jim. And I've met many people here who are unique CNN fans in their own way. Some prefer CNNI, some CNN/US, others HLN. We may have all our differences when it came to CNN viewership and preferences, but what bound us as CNN fans is that we shared a common liking to the World's News Leader, depending on which CNN you like. We've all had our share in criticizing and praising CNNI's changes to its primetime lineup, and I myself was no stranger to it. My most-often ranted topic was the non-availability of CNN/US to international audiences, given the worldwide availability of Fox News, CNN's biggest rival.
In time, my CNN viewership and preference shifted from International to US. Precisely because I watch CNN for its anchors and correspondents, and given that my personal favorite is with CNN/US, it is all the more reason why I drifted away from CNNI. Compared to the latter, CNN/US has an overemphasis on US news, which to me, is international news. (This is not up for debate and neither perspective from any side will make me change my opinion.) Having relatives who live there as well, not to mention that I find US news more interesting and relevant than international, notwithstanding the biases that dominate the US news media, would be enough for me to remain with CNN/US, inspite of its struggling ratings as against Fox News and MSNBC. It was also fun posting about how I want CNNI to show The Situation Room in all its entirety - the three full hours at that time and not just the one hour being simulcast on CNNI. And weekend news is something that CNN/US is able to provide that CNNI cannot and will never give. But like CNNI, my interest in CNN/US started to dwindle, and is continuing to go down the road in decline. The departure of Lou Dobbs, followed by several defections of key CNN personalities to other networks changed my perceptions of CNN as a whole. And you have personalities like Rick Sanchez, the Spitzer-Parker show and presumably, Piers Morgan.
Then there's the mismanagement of CNN as a whole. Pin the blame on Jon Klein as CNN/US's head, but don't spare Tony Maddox of CNNI, and Jim Walton of CNN Worldwide, as all of them have made watching CNN miserable. But all of these things are now behind me.
I've enjoyed capping many CNN anchors and correspondents, whether I was a fan of them or not, as I have always held the greatest degree of respect for them. Come to think of it, I had fun capping the CNNI personalities whenever I would catch them on CNN/US. Seeing them on a sister network that is not available worldwide helped me gain a better appreciation for them than watching them directly on CNNI.
These days, I now devote my time on this forum to posting caps of my favorite CNN'er Kate Bolduan whenever I would catch her whether on the anchor desk or on the field. I kept that thread on the top of the CNN A/C forum whenever I'd post caps of her, as well as collages, because that is the first thread I will always visit whenever I drop by here. My appreciation for KB is elegant in its simplicity.
And finally, this is about me. I feel that it's time to throw in the towel. I will still remain a fan of KB, but as a CNN fan, I'm afraid the end of the road has come. My CNN fan meter is nearly close to zero, and the small percentage of which is left emanates from my being a KB fan, who is still a CNN'er. I've also made quite a lot of friends here as well, some of whom are on Twitter. I'll still be on Twitter though. And I'll miss those days when I'd always help updating the Official CNN Twitter accounts, for the benefit of those who want to follow the CNN'ers through their Twitter pages.
Until I learn to appreciate CNN again, I guess this is it. Thanks, and it's been fun.
